The Cerro Guido Foundation and the Municipality of Torres del Paine join forces to protect wildlife
In collaboration with Fundación Con Garra, we donated ten wildlife warning signs to the Municipality of Torres del Paine, which has committed to installing them along public roads to encourage responsible driving and help protect wildlife.
Coexistence between people and wildlife is also built through everyday actions. Slowing down when driving through areas where animals may cross is one of them. Signs warning drivers of wildlife presence can help raise awareness of the importance of sharing the landscape responsibly.
With this goal in mind, Fundación Cerro Guido, in collaboration with Fundación Con Garra, donated ten wildlife warning signs to the Municipality of Torres del Paine. The municipality, in turn, committed to installing them along public roads in the area.
The first sign was handed over during a ceremony in Villa Río Serrano, where the Municipality of Torres del Paine received its certification under the Municipal Environmental Certification System of Chile’s Ministry of the Environment, recognizing its progress in community environmental and climate governance. The event brought together local authorities and representatives of public and private organizations, who also reaffirmed their commitment to environmental protection in the region.

A Concrete Action to Protect Wildlife
This initiative is linked to the Lento por la Fauna (Slow Down for Wildlife) campaign, promoted by Fundación Con Garra, an organization dedicated to the conservation of Chile’s native wild cats. The campaign aims to raise awareness of wildlife along roads and highways and encourage more attentive driving to help prevent wildlife–vehicle collisions.
In Torres del Paine, where wildlife shares the landscape with activities such as livestock farming, tourism and road traffic, promoting responsible coexistence means incorporating care for nature into our everyday practices.
The signs serve as a reminder that the decisions we make while travelling through the area can affect the wildlife that inhabits it. Paying attention to warning signs and reducing speed in areas where animals may cross are practical steps that can help reduce risks to wildlife.

A Shared Commitment to the Territory
Protecting biodiversity requires the commitment of different stakeholders and concrete actions that foster responsible coexistence between people and nature.
We thank the Municipality of Torres del Paine for joining this initiative and committing to installing the signs along public roads. We believe that collaboration between organizations and local authorities is essential to advancing practical measures that protect wildlife and strengthen coexistence throughout the territory.
