8. Similar to those from the Precambrian era, they are fossil evidence of the first organisms that initiated life on the planet, having maintained their evolutionary lineage for 3.5 billion years. Similar formations (stromatolites) can be found in the nearby Laguna Amarga, as well as in Laguna de los Cisnes (Stromatolite Park) near the city of Porvenir in Tierra del Fuego Province, in the Salar de Llamara (Antofagasta), and Camiña (Arica and Parinacota Region), all in Chile. Additionally, similar structures exist in Argentina, Australia, the Bahamas, Brazil, Mexico, and the Red Sea.

41. The name given to a series of climatic events that occurred in August 1995 in the southern regions of Chile, being classified as the worst climatic disaster in the area in 40 years. The unusual snowstorms, low temperatures, and their fatal impact on the region's productive activities, mainly livestock and agriculture, earned the phenomenon the name "White Earthquake" (Terremoto Blanco).

42. In August of that year, an apparently normal winter front unusually extended, with a sharp drop in temperatures and heavy snowfall that obstructed roads and isolated hundreds of people in the rural areas of Magallanes. The stored forage quickly ran out, and thousands of sheep and cattle were trapped under meters of snow.

Discoveries of Global Impact
46. When animals are moved to distant fields from the main estancia ("casco"), it is necessary for a camp worker, known as a "puestero," to accompany them and live in ranches set up as "posts" to monitor the sheep and lambs being moved. For much of the 20th century, the famous "caravana" was used as a post, which had the great advantage of being transportable by oxen or tractors.
47. This refers to the Tyndall Glacier in Torres del Paine National Park, where nearly a hundred ichthyosaurs (extinct marine reptiles) from the early Cretaceous period have been recorded, most of them adults and newborns, along with pregnant females. This site has become the most important ichthyosaur fossil site in the world for the early Cretaceous, due to the quantity of ichthyosaurs and the quality of their preservation (Pardo-Pérez et al., 2012; Stinnesbeck et al., 2014; Pardo-Pérez et al., 2015). In 2022, during an expedition organized by the University of Magallanes, the Río Seco Natural History Museum, and the Stuttgart Natural History Museum (Germany), the ichthyosaur "Fiona" was excavated. It is the first complete ichthyosaur excavated in Chile and the only pregnant female, dating back 131 million years, found in the world.
