CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION

We are taking different actions for the conservation of cultural heritage in each of its categories. Here we tell you about these areas of action:

ARCHITECTURE

The objective is to conserve and enhance the architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries, in addition to strengthening the local architectural identity of the territory. How are we going to achieve this goal? Articulating with other actors, supervising and ensuring proper restoration management and applying for funds.

AREAS OF ACTION

ARCHEOLOGY CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PLACE

Tours are carried out through different sectors in which we look for any evidence of past human activity, for this the first thing is the tour on foot in search of material evidence on the surface or exposed profiles (bone remains, lithic -or stone- or other evidence left by human groups). These registers are divided according to their complexity. Depending on the location and the types of materials, it may be a typical site: stone quarry, stone workshop, stone quarry/workshop, camp, burial or other.

So far we have been able to detect all of them in the Guido/Baguales area, where the archaeological sites have been mainly recorded near watercourses.

STRATIGRAPHY OF

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES

This process is important to verify their potential. To do this, 50x50cm boreholes (or test pits) are made. This gives us a first impression of the amount of material and the stratigraphic strength of the site surveyed. After this, some of them are chosen and an extended excavation is carried out. This activity releases us more complete information about the archaeological contexts and thus understand the activities that were carried out by human groups of the past in the area.

CURATOR PROCESS

Once the materials are excavated, they are taken to the Center for the Study of History and Archeology of the Instituto de la Patagonia, Universidad de Magallanes, where they undergo a curation process to be properly preserved, and finally, one by one, they are analyzed by specialists.

Samples of bone remains and/or charcoal from each site are sent to the United States for 14C dating and diet analysis.

The complement of the analyzes of each archaeological component, the dating and the results of the diet analysis will allow us to provide a better correlation on the passage of the human groups that inhabited the area in question.

*All the archaeological sites that are excavated/intervened are later covered up so as not to leave evidence of this activity and thus preserve the environment. For all this there are care protocols that are taken into account even before digging. The idea is to collect the necessary information and at the same time preserve the archaeological sites that by law are property of the State and are protected under the Heritage Law 17,288.

CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS

The objective is to rescue and enhance the customs and traditions of Cerro Guido. How are we going to achieve this goal? Promoting research on the customs and traditions of the territory, promoting visits to the territory, promoting the sale of local products and undertakings that are related to local identity.

AREAS OF ACTION

CULTURAL HISTORICAL TOUR

We offer an excursion that allows you to discover the heart of the Estancia, its history and traditions. It is an invitation to discover an authentic Patagonian ranch, founded 100 years ago, with its typical architectural style, cultural heritage of Patagonia. Touring its original hulls, such as the manor house, the orchard and the shearing shed, they will learn about the history of the region and the work with animals, as well as the way of life of our people and the traditions that define the essence of Patagonia. .

GETTING TO KNOW THE LOCAL LIFE

We invite the passengers of Cerro Guido to get to know local life from up close: with horseback riding, shearing, working with sheepdogs and working with cattle on the ground.
